Why I don't use Mineral Oil

My number one beauty tip is to steer completely clear of mineral oil. Whether that means using a higher end foundation, or double checking your daily moisturiser... I think it is so important to ensure that each product you are applying on your skin, is completely safe from mineral oil.

And let me tell you why...

Firstly, it's a short-cut for businesses

Mineral oil itself has no long term benefit on your skin,  it would therefore seem that companies are using this product to keep their costs down. I refuse to accept the argument about M/O increasing the longetivity of makeup. Your skincare and primer should be where you should turn if you have any issues with makeup wearing off throughout the day. Makeup is only ever as good as your skincare.

It sits on the surface of skin

Not only does mineral oil sit upon the surface of the skin, but will clog pores, causing inflammation or bacterial infection. The fact this ingredient is open to this sort of risk, baffles me as to why some continue to use such products.

Unsuitable for those suffering with blackheads/acne

Mineral oil is comedogenic, meaning it can cause blackheads and break outs as a result of blocked pores. Throughout the day, our skin cannot perform effectively if the natural 'shedding' of skin is denied. In order to maintain clear skin and unclogged pores, this shedding process must take place.

In short, I find mineral a completely futile ingredient in any skincare routine or makeup product. If you want to improve the longevity of your makeup, why not look into investing in beneficial skincare? At the end of the day, mineral oil is completely down to you. I only point out the issues I have found surrounding it; you only have one face so please make sure you know what you are using on it.

What are your thoughts on mineral oil?
