The Hollister Interview | My Experience

So a slightly different blog post today, I really want to share my 'Hollister' interview experience with you all, whether you've been given an interview or if you just feel like reading 'My Hollister Experience', we know them 'nosey' readers out there *raises hand*

There are so many myths about Hollister and what their interviews consist of, things like "you have to be skinny to work at Hollister" and "Boys have to be tall, tanned and toned to work there". So hopefully this post reassures you...enjoy!

Can girls wear makeup?
The answer is YES! They want confident girls, whether that means you go bare faced or wearing foundation. But they're looking for girls who are quite natural (SO LEAVE THE FACE PAINT AT HOME) but seriously go for the natural kind of look. Don't fake tan because it will look obvious, be as natural as possible! And this goes for guys too, don't over dye your hair or go overboard with fake-tanning! Most of it is common sense but if you're in doubt...don't do it!!

*Look out for a detailed 'makeup' blog post on my channel*

Do you have to wear Hollister branded clothes?
NO! They don't expect you to splash out on a brand new outfit just for this interview. If you really want to impress them, then wear similar pieces to Hollister that you already own. This can be dark navy jeans/shorts and a white t shirt (this applies to guys and girls). And they only allow Converse/Vans or Hollister footwear for their workers, but in the interview you can wear whatever you feel comfortable in...they'll explain the dress code once you get the job! Plus staff members receive discount (a lot of discount) to buy their work clothes.

Do they only choose 'skinny' girls and 'muscly' guys?
There's talk going around that you HAVE to be skinny, tanned and medium height, which quite frankly is ridiculous! They're not allowed to turn you away from a job simply because you're too tall or you're slightly curvier. NO! My local Hollister has such a diverse staff team, from short to tall and skinny or curvy (for both sexes).  Hollister, as  a business want to show off the theme of 'Diversity' so will be more likely to choose you if you're different. Don't worry!

Do you have to be 'scouted' to work there?
No. They'll scout people that have the 'Hollister' vibe in the store and those who looks like they'd suit being a Hollister model, but if you just go up to someone in the store and ask for an interview, they cannot refuse to give you an interview. And just because you've been 'scouted' does not mean that you are guaranteed the job;they may not even have places available.

Questions they'll ask in the interview?
Hollister interviews are held twice a week, usually on Tuesday's and Friday's at 4pm. They're group interviews so expect around 4-12 people in there with you. I found group interviews to be much more relaxed and laid back, (which obviously is what Hollister is all about) but be careful, you want to stand out from the rest of them in there with you. They'll firstly ask you to say your name, age and a little bit about yourself in front of everyone else. Everyone has to do this, so don't stress...everyone is in the same situation!

Be prepared for these types of questions-

  • What does Diversity mean to you, and why is it important in the work-place?
  • What was the last thing you did, which you are proud of?
  • How would your friends/family describe you in 3 words?
  • What do you like about Hollister?
  • What makes you suited to work for Hollister?

REMEMBER: they have two set of group interviews every week, so try being different to make them want to employ YOU!. Be confident, friendly and sociable...don't just sit there!

Good luck to those of you who have an interview. If you have any other questions/comments leave them below...
